A Web and Mobile Tech Event in Jamaica…Finally!
In recent times I’ve heard about several web design/development events, that I wished I could attend. Some include An Event Apart , SXSW Interactive and Web Directions. I sometimes wish I could be like Molly or Andy and fly all over the globe to attend every single web related conference I heard of. But because of a number of circumstances such as my studies, I’m sadly unable to attend any of these events, or to meet any of these wonderful people face to face. I often wondered why no one in my own country, Jamaica, ever thought of having a similar event. I’ve heard of other tech events being held here, showcasing the latest tech gadgets and so on, but none of these events were primarily focused on “the web.”
I was pleasantly surprised however, to hear about a local Web and Mobile tech event called Kingston BETA, which is slated to kick off here in Kingston Jamaica, on February 28th, 2007. The coordinators of Kingston BETA plan to make it a quarterly event, where people from all walks of business and tech life such as web designers/developers, bloggers, entrepreneurs, journalists, mobile marketers and so on, can interact with each other, socialize and exchange ideas. The event will be “peppered” with presentations from some of the most respected experts and entrepreneurs, product experience booths, as well as exclusive product launches.
Some of the speakers slated for the staging of February’s event include Sandor Panton, CEO of Top5 Network, Rodney Browne, CEO of eCaribbean Limited and Mark Allan, CEO of One Studio.
All this sounds so exciting, sort of like a dream come true, to have our very own Jamaican web event. I raise my hat to its organizers, for being brave enough to take on a challenge of this magnitude, and I wish them all the best.
I registered to attend via Kingston BETA’s website, but my registration has not been confirmed as yet, so if I actually get to go, I may give you guys an update as to how it went
. So until next time, peace out.
